Graduates earn 3,490 degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology


About 36.6 percent of the 3,490 degrees and certificates handed out by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017-18 were to students in engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Cambridge conferred 561 master's degrees and 411 bachelor's degrees in engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a master's degree in general business/commerce. Data shows the school gave out 660 master's degrees in general business/commerce, followed by 341 bachelor's degrees in computer science and 210 master's degrees in computer science.

The institute enrolled 11,466 students for 2017-18, including 4,547 in undergraduate programs and 6,919 in graduate programs.
