ALKU issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.
Happy Holidays from the ALKrew! Last month, ALKU got in the holiday spirit and introduced the ALKU Season of Giving program for the month of December. With it being the holiday season, ALKU wanted to find a way to give back to local communities in need by volunteering their time.
Over 20 employees participated in the ALKU Season of Giving! The employees chose various organizations to donate their time to, with people volunteering at Wakefield Food Pantry in Wakefield, MA, Debbie’s Treasure Chest in Lawrence, MA, and Neighbors in Need in Lawrence, MA. The ALKrew volunteers were able to utilize ALKU’s Volunteer Time Off Policy (VTO)- a policy that allows a certain amount of PTO hours a year devoted to volunteering at local organizations. The VTO Policy is an exciting addition to the 2018 year, alongside the ALKU Season of Giving.
Volunteers at Debbie’s Treasure Chest helped with everything from cleaning to organizing the shop. Debbie’s Treasure Chest provides a retail-like experience for those in need to “shop” for items at no cost. The ALKrew enjoyed spending the day sorting, organizing, and cleaning, and could tell the extra helping hands went a long way! In the same spirit, volunteers at the Wakefield Food Pantry helped organize the pantry to make families feel as though they were “shopping” at the grocery store.
The bulk of the ALKrew volunteers donated their time to the Neighbors in Need Association in Lawrence, MA. Employees spent all morning volunteering alongside local residents and other businesses, helping with the Holiday Distribution Day, by sorting food donations in the food pantry. It was an exciting and impactful morning, as everyone from brand new ALKU employees to directors helped Neighbors in Need provide food for around 1,000 local families for the holidays.
A humbling experience, the ALKrew was happy to be able to give back to their communities, especially during the holiday season. We already look forward to the next volunteer opportunity in 2019!
