Graduates earn 3,533 degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology


About 38 percent of the 3,533 degrees and certificates handed out by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016-17 were to students in Engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Cambridge conferred 577 master's degrees and 462 bachelor's degrees in Engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a master's degree in Business/Commerce, General. Data shows the school gave out 674 master's degrees in Business/Commerce, General, followed by 342 bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and 172 master's degrees in Computer Science.

The institute enrolled 11,376 students for 2016-17, including 4,524 in undergraduate programs and 6,852 in graduate programs.
